MISSION

The Chiropractic Libraries Section serves as a forum for the interchange of ideas and information among health science librarians who are interested in chiropractic health care, education, and research.

CLS promotes cooperation among chiropractic libraries, and encourages the continued development of chiropractic libraries.

CLS conducts activities and programs which foster chiropractic information resources as well as access to these sources.

GOALS for 2007-2008

Goal 1: Recruitment, Membership and Leadership in the Profession

Objective: Maintain the CLS (Chiropractic Libraries Section) website (http://www.cls.mlanet.org) by providing information, education, and research.

Who, Expertise Needed: The CLS website is edited and maintained by Annette Osenga, Life West College of Chiropractic. Resources are supplied by chiropractic librarians. Information promoting section membership is available and details are provided on how to participate in the electronic discussion listserv.

Time Needed: Ongoing effort throughout the year.

Resources Required: Links and various resources are provided by the colleges.

Product Outcome: New membership, education, and encouragement among fellow librarians.

Evaluation: Measure results through the listserv and at the annual MLA meeting.

Goal 2: Life Long Learning

Objective: Co-sponsor programs for the MLA annual conference in Chicago 2008.

Who, Expertise Needed: Program suggestions were encouraged by Section Rep Marian Hicks, Cleveland Chiropractic College LA. Program choices are coordinated by Marcia Thomas, CLS Section National Program Committee Liaison, Cleveland Chiropractic College KC. Dan Kanaley, New York Chiropractic College is assisting as needed in program decisions.

Time Needed: Ongoing preparation until the next annual MLA conference.

Resources Required: Speakers that have expertise in the subjects that are chosen. Topics will be in accordance with MLA guidelines and themes.

Product Outcome: Good education and topic appeal to MLA members in communicating information about chiropractic and alternative medicine.

Evaluation: Attendance and feedback will indicate the success of the speaker and the topic.

Goal 3: Advocacy

Objective: To sponsor a scholarship award through MLA.

Who, Expertise Needed: None

Time Needed:To be completed before next annual MLA conference.

Resources Required: $100

Product Outcome:Encourage and provide opportunity to fellow librarians

Evaluation:

Goal 4: Creating and Communicating our Knowledge

Objective: Update and review the Chiropractic Libraries BibKit

Who, Expertise Needed: Dan Kanaley (New York Chiropractic College) coordinates the update and review of the BibKit. Other contributors are Della Shupe (Northwestern Health Sc. Library) and Caroline Webb (TCC) - books, Margaret Butkovic (CMCC) - media, and Marian Hicks (Cleveland Chiropractic College) ICL/peer-reviewed chiropractic journals.

Time Needed: Ongoing effort throughout the year.

Resources Required:Coordination of information including books, media, and journals.

Product Outcome:Updated chiropractic education tool.

Evaluation: To be determined.

Goal 4: Creating and Communicating our Knowledge

Objective: Publish section newsletter

Who, Expertise Needed: Dan Kanaley (New York Chiropractic College), Newsletter Editor

Time Needed: 8 - 10 hours per newsletter

Resources Required:Newsletter publishing software and information from chiropractic libraries and conference meetings.

Product Outcome: Distribution of newsletter.

Evaluation: Communication with fellow librarians.
